The
Quiet Voice of Wisdom
"The whisper from within that reassures us everything is okay delivers its message with quiet confidence. Once we hear it, we know it speaks the truth.” ~ Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
We all have noticed that if we want to speak to someone in a noisy, crowded room, the best thing to do is lean close and whisper. Yelling in an attempt to be louder than the room’s noise generally, only hurts our throat and adds to the dissonance. Similarly, that still quiet voice within each of us does not try to compete with the mental chatter on the surface of our minds, nor does it attempt to overpower the cacophony and volume of the disorderly disruptions of the world outside. If we want to hear it, no matter what is going on around us or even inside us, we simply need to tune into that soft voice underneath the surrounding noise with our purposeful awareness.
It is a generally accepted fact, that the more stressful and tenacious voices in our heads delivering messages that make us feel fearful or stressful are of questionable authority. They may be voices we have internalized from childhood, external programming from our culture or deceptions perpetrated by false prophets. Essentially they possess duplicities and half-truths. The wisdom of our inner voice whispers strengthening encouragements and reminds us that everything is fundamentally all right. And once we hear this truth, a powerful sense of calm settles over our entire Being and the other voices, once so dominant, fade into the background suddenly seeming inaudible and insignificant.
As we align ourselves with this quiet voice of wisdom, we can transcend the noise of this world and create peace and harmony in our day to day existence. We often find ourselves searching for tranquillity outside ourselves, this is a persistent illusion. Learn to immerse your awareness into the deepest levels of consciousness, your sacred sanctuary of silence, and your inner illumination will expand and saturate every cell in your body in waves of serenity, and peacefulness. We can access this state of Being through meditation. Schedule times each day to meditate and regularly experience what it feels like to detach from your stressors and experience your true nature which is pure bliss.
“Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation breeds ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.” ~ Buddha
It takes practice to detach from your burdens and worries, so give yourself some time to cultivate this nourishing activity. If you wait until all the details of your daily life are taken care of before you allow yourself to experience this vital quiet time for yourself, it will never happen, because there will always be something else in your day to day activity that will demand your time and attention. Remind yourself that soon enough you will be able to take care of everything you need to do, but right now you are taking time for yourself. Realize that you have the power to free yourself from anxiety simply by deciding to do so. The more you practice meditating the easier it will be to return to your source of bliss.
The brain is basically a computer that automatically plays the programs that are put into it. The neural pathways and thought processes of the brain become ingrained and habitual. The more we can experience that whisper within through meditation the easier it becomes, and eventually that becomes the brain's new way of automatically thinking, which is what the Buddha meant when he said: "What we think, we become". When we focus on fear, we manifest fear. When we focus on love, we manifest love. Listen to the whisper of truth that broadcasts its message, like the movement of the wind shaking the leaves of a tree.
"There is nothing either good or bad, but only thinking makes it so." ~ William Shakespeare
To think that the loud and fearful voices in one's mind are real is nothing more than the ego’s wishful thinking. The ego has a superiority complex. It likes to be "right", and it will try to preserve that notion in whatever way it can. There comes a time when we eventually realize that our thoughts are the underlying origin of all conflict, hardship, and suffering, and at that point, we can choose to start letting our thoughts dissipate as they arise, or before they arise. Without the mind interfering, everything just is; nothing more, nothing less. Existence is perfect exactly as it is and it doesn't need the opinions of a faulty neural network to tell it that it is or isn't.
If we are to have lasting peace on our planet, each one of us must cultivate it within ourselves first. If we are in a constant state of inner conflict or have disagreements within our relationships, then we will ultimately manifest conflicts in the world. Our thoughts are powerful forces that we can harness to create our reality. Through them, we move the unformed energy of the universe into form, which gives expression to our intentions. Each thought is like a stone dropped into a lake, sending ripples into our whole Being. We can choose our thoughts and how we invest our energy. We can choose to appreciate the beauty and worthy qualities in other people rather than focusing on their unpleasant and divergent qualities.
By the continuous practice of immersing our awareness and aligning with our “Quiet Voice of Wisdom”, we can truly create inner peace. Our interpretations of circumstances define our reality and it can change in an instant. Our only true reality is in the present moment, so rather than merely accepting that life is happening to us, we can align the power of our thoughts and actively create our experiences each and every moment.
