Control your attention, and you control your mind

A disciple and his teacher were walking through the forest. The disciple was disturbed by the fact that his mind was in constant unrest.

He asked his teacher: "Why most people's minds are restless, and only a few possess a calm mind? What can one do to still the mind?"

The teacher looked at the disciple, smiled and said:

"I will tell you a story. An elephant was standing and picking leaves from a tree. A small fly came, flying and buzzing near his ear. The elephant waved it away with his long ears. Then the fly came again, and the elephant waved it away once more".

This was repeated several times. Then the elephant asked the fly:
"Why are you so restless and noisy? Why can't you stay for a while in one place?"

The fly answered: "I am attracted to whatever I see, hear or smell. My five senses pull me constantly in all directions and I cannot resist them. What is your secret? How can you stay so calm and still?"

The elephant stopped eating and said: "My five senses do not rule my attention. Whatever I do, I get immersed in it. Now that I am eating, I am completely immersed in eating. In this way I can enjoy my food and chew it better. I rule and control my attention, and not the other way around."

Upon hearing these words, the disciple's eyes opened wide and a smile appeared on his face. He looked at his teacher and said:

"I understand! If my five senses are in control of my mind and attention, then my mind is in constant unrest. If I am in charge of my five senses and attention, then my mind becomes calm".

"Yes, that's right", answered the teacher, "The mind is restless and goes wherever the attention is. Control your attention, and you control your mind".

Changing your thinking

If your thoughts could cause things to instantly happen, what kind of thoughts would you think? If your values and priorities were to be continually manifested in the world around you, what values and priorities would you choose?

The fact is, your thoughts, your values, and your priorities most certainly have a major influence on the quality of your world and your life. Though you cannot instantly make something appear just by thinking about it, the things that do end up appearing in your life often do so as a result of your thoughts.

Your thoughts directly control your actions, and your actions have a major impact on the reality of your life. When you feed your moments with positive, loving, thankful thoughts, your life and your world cannot help but benefit.

The quickest way to improve your situation is to improve the way you think about it. Though your thoughts will not immediately change anything outside of you, they can immediately change your outlook.

And by adopting an affirmative, creative, grateful outlook on life, you receive a double benefit. Your actions become more focused on creating value and at the same time, they become more effective.

Changing your thinking can indeed change your world. So choose the best thoughts that you can possibly imagine. By changing your thinking, you change your beliefs;

When you change your beliefs, you change your expectations.
When you change your expectations, you change your attitude.
When you change your attitude you change your behavior,
When you change your behavior; you change your performance.
When you change your performance; you change your life,

So make Changes

Starting to-day, tell yourself that you are going to do something, however small, a little differently. Perhaps you can be more friendly to the people you work with. Maybe it’s not too late to overcome your fear of asking others to help you, or for their advice whoever you are, whatever you do, there is always something you can do a little differently.

You may find that you love the tiny changes you make and that you can open exciting new doors by making relatively small adjustments. If you are okay with the changes, you might want to try some other changes as well.

How to bring extraordinary results ?

Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes.

It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results. Let’s change to make a change !!! If you focus on results, you will never change. If you focus on change, you will get results.
Give Your Best to Relationship

A boy and a girl were playing together. The boy had a collection of marbles. The girl had some sweets with her.

The boy told the girl that he will give her all his marbles in exchange for her sweets. The girl agreed.

The boy kept the biggest and the most beautiful marble aside and gave the rest to the girl. The girl gave him all her sweets as she had promised.

That night, girl slept peacefully. But the boy couldn’t sleep as he kept wondering if the girl had hidden some sweets from the way he had hidden his best marble.

Moral of the story; If you don’t give your hundred percent in a relationship, always keep doubting if the other person has given his/her hundred percent.

This is applicable for any relationship like love, employer-employee relationship etc. give your hundred percent to everything you do and sleep peacefully.
The Power of Giving

Giving is powerful. Many people will attempt to prevent you from taking, yet no one can stop you from giving as much as you wish. Give and you increase the value that flows through your life. Give of yourself, and you make yourself, and you make yourself stronger.

Every time you interact with someone else, you have the opportunity to give that person some kind of value. Whether it is a thing, or a thought, a gesture or a kind word, the most powerful gifts are those that come straight from the heart.

Many will appreciate your gifts and some will not, but that is not the point. For it is the sincere act of giving, not how the gift is received, that brings value and goodness to your world.

As you give more and more, you have more to give. As the joy of giving flows out from you, new richness fills your life.

Each moment is an opportunity to engage the beautiful, loving power of giving. Give your best and you’ll get even better.
The Outer Space of the Mind:

Spiritual practice is like a science. We start with a hypothesis: "This is where I think I'm heading." In the same way, if we were going into outer space we would know our mission and would have what we need to survive. Space flights are just another manifestation of our desire to break through previously accepted limitations. We explore outer space to find our place in the universe. But what is the outer space of the mind? To discover this unknown territory, our senses must be trained for greater perception. And only courageous people who passionately want to know will venture into this vastness. For some, the outer space of the mind is too intriguing to ignore. How can the mind extends beyond its present limitations?

The answer is through concentration. The concentrated mind can extend much further than the undirected mind. When we try to direct our thoughts and other thoughts intrude, energy is divided: "Here is what I want to think, and here is what actually comes through." If we can stop the influx of "other" thoughts, energy can be directed.

When we chant a mantra, for example, the sounds are vibrations. But unless we maintain our focus, the vibrations will not take us where they could. If our focus is on the physical-trying to make our voice sound just right-thoughts of self-criticism can slip in and steal part of the energy. If having a great voice was all it takes, every opera singer would have attained higher consciousness. So there is something else involved-the right focus and the ability to prevent intruding thoughts from diverting attention away from the goal.

What can be described is only the process the practices set out by those who have achieved their goal. When we become aware that others have attained extraordinary results, we may be inspired to try the same methods. Can we get the same results? When we want to duplicate an experiment, we need to observe all of the intricate single steps and take them. We can't skip some or change the order to suit our self. Once we have attained results, we may discover a way to speed up the process. Speeding up is only possible when there is no more resistance. When resistance is dissipated that energy becomes available to us.

What this really means, in terms of spiritual practice, is to persist. Keep a close record and we will see many repeating patterns. In time we will learn to master our states of mind, just as we can wake up from a fearful dream. Each time we move one increment closer until finally we move past our intellect's defenses. Then we will become aware that the intellect, although it has quite some power, does not have unlimited power. If it did, it wouldn't need to fight. So the next step is to decide to use the intellect for discrimination. Question the doubt itself: Why do I doubt?

When we go past resistance, doubt, pride and the emotional impact of egocentricity, we may reach a place in our own mind that was up until now a secret. We didn't know it existed. Many things in life exist, but they have yet to be discovered. We have to discover the existence of the "hidden place of the mind." And as we do, we will strip away the mystery and diminish fear and resistance, which eat up energy. We will become much more aware of how we use energy. Imagine the exhilaration of going into outer space for the first time. Wouldn't we just watch and absorb? We would be overwhelmed and in awe because we had not known exactly what to expect. We had speculated, but we didn't know for sure. We had many assumptions, based on imagination. Now we might find that some of what we imagined or thought possible has proven true, while we have to totally discard other preconceptions.

The journey to the outer space of the mind is actually the very same: we have heard about higher states of consciousness and people who had attained them, so we drew conclusions wrongly or rightly and created our own hypothesis. Now we will find out.

The mind is like space with all the stars and planets: everything exists and is waiting to be discovered, but we can only go so far in our first explorations. Just as the first major voyages in space were to the moon, our first exploration is to the hidden place in our own mind. Just as the moon is able to reflect the light of the sun, we can discover in the mind the place that reflects and absorbs the Light of Divine Wisdom. We cannot take all the Light at once. We must take it in degrees. We may have a great flash, but it is a flash, and does not stay.

The more we overcome the resistance of the intellect, the more often we can travel to the place of Light. As we make repeated visits, we may discover new laws or circumstances that we need to become aware of, like physicists who discover the laws of the physical world or biologists who understand the laws of nature. We may not have given this cosmic law a name or defined it, but it's there. Then we will experience the repercussions of our discovery, which will reshape our entire perspective.

But we can't stop there, just as astronomers can't stop at exploring the moon but want to know about the sun and other stars, and beyond the known stars into previously unseen galaxies. What are the possibilities within the outer space of the mind? We can always discover more and a little more, and a little more. But it is like the study of space: we can never discover it all. However, the journey of discovery alone will expand our perspective and change our view of our capabilities.

Nostradamus quatrains:

Nostradamus quatrain Century 1 Quatrain 53 clearly depicts the rise of Hinduism in the coming years. The materialistic riches... gold and silver will lose its shine and the coming age "the new golden era" would announce spirituality regaining a strong foothold in the times to come.

What of the intangible riches with which every human being has been richly imbibed with? Have we totally forgotten our true real worth? Shall we not ever truly realize our status as a human being?

Nostradamus the seer could visualize about 450 years before, the rise of a nation having spirituality as its main base. India... the spiritual centre of the world does not need an introduction. It has seen a great upheaval in the past about 850 years.

Initially dominated by Islamic rulers who repeatedly invaded India for about 600 years and the last 200 years of rule by the British almost destroyed and subdued the Hindu culture! Nostradamus could see it forthright that around 2012... Hinduism would again establish itself as foremost of all the world religions.

(Even though Nostradamus Century 1 Quatrain 53 does not directly point towards the year 2012... the happenings as indicated in the four lines of the Nostradamus quatrain Century 1 Quatrain 53 indicate towards the present day scenario)

A great nation solely troubled depicts the fate of United States of America. With passage of time USA which has usurped the status of the watchdog of Mother Earth shall face the fury of the Islamic onslaught. Unilateral occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq, threatening attitude towards Iran will make United States of America bite the dust.

The holy country Iran... which may or may not use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes... can it ever be dictated upon by anyone other than their holy masters... the prophets who from time to time have guided the holy people of Iran. Time has come when we see the stronger exerting its might upon the meek using unfair and unethical means.

What shall be the result of this? A holy war between the stronger and the meek... A full scale nuclear World War Three between United States of America and Iran! USA supported by its allies... the Europe and countries having Christianity as its base on one side and Iran and all the Middle East countries including Pakistan giving it a tough fight.

The law of Islamic Dharma... the religious tenets put to challenge... the Islamic fundamentalists decides to hit back at USA and its allies. The law of the land... the practice of passing fatwa's at the first opportunity is put to acid test. The USA and its allies unwilling to accept fatwa's any further retaliate with full fury.

The resultant fight between the two would escalate into a full-fledged nuclear World War Three between Christianity and Islamic Dharma. And the winner would be the silent spectators. China and India both having population above 1500 million people each would watch the cat and dog fight between Christianity and Islam.

The end of the World War-III would see the materialistic tendencies within human beings fading into the past as if they never existed. This shall give rise to the spiritual spark that exists within every human being as its soul atman. Ignited to its extreme... the humanity would find a new meaning... the intangible riches gain a foothold!

Gold and silver having lost its shine... the feeling of brotherhood that existed since times immemorial shall revive the bond of love amongst human beings and also all other forms of life. A new meaning of life would emerge. In the post World War-III scenarios... the human life would carry utmost significance.

This lost love between human beings is much more precious than gold and silver. Spirituality world-wide would now be freely practiced. The materialistic wants and riches losing their shine... the rituals would lose their value forever.

It is not merely going to the temple, church or a mosque that leads us towards spiritual freedom... the truth lies in freely accepting the spiritual laws of nature. These laws were prevalent ever since mankind gained its footing but their implementation was not in vogue.

The fundamental nature of Christianity and Islamic Dharma having come to a naught... it is almost the end of practicing Christianity and Islamic Dharma after the World War-III. Now it is only the practice of spirituality all over which shall imbibe the lost values amongst human beings.
Performance of good karma is essential

Performance of good karma is essential for one to live a happy life full of joy and bliss!

Whenever we see a cockroach, a reptile or one who is ugly by all standards are unwanted creatures. Do you ever realize that the life of a human being is but a journey in the vast expanse of the cosmic system? Every human being before reaching the manifest stage of a human being has already lived the life of an insect, a plant and an animal.

Everything we see in the Cosmos was destined and planned by God. Every single entity existing in the Cosmos has its utility... be it an insect, plant, an animal or even the so-called daemonic human beings... the followers of cults and fundamentalists par excellence.

You do a wrong and they would pass a fatwa... what a noble way of getting rid of someone whom you do not desire or want. Such human beings distort the original teachings of the enlightened ones. They become the self ordained soldiers of ethics and morality not only in the society they live but also try to dictate and implement their dictum in faraway lands.

We praise the Hindus and reject the Muslims. What did Brahmins practice a last few decades from now? No scheduled caste member of the society was permitted to go near the temples. Was this not high handedness of the Indian priests who considered themselves above all ! Who gave them this right and to what avail !

In the present Kali Yuga phase of society... the same downtrodden denizens of the society have become the rulers. Everything in the cosmic cycle always comes full circle. If we have a day... we also have nights. We have fire... we also have water ! We are happy... we also face sufferings !

None in the society has the power to discard one. As per the doctrine put forward by Lord Krishna in the battlefield of Mahabharata, the sacred Bhagwat Gita none is to be despised in spite of any handicap. All are children of God. One suffers due to his own folly. If we suffer in present life it is owing to our karma of the present or the previous lives. None other is to blame.

Prophet Mohammed in his teachings imparted pure Spirituality. He was a truly enlightened soul. He never differentiated between two human beings. One may belong to any religion but for Prophet Mohammed they were all the same.

The difference lies in the teachings and the implementation. It is the implementation of the teachings which has been distorted by vested interests. The enlightened souls are never to be blamed. They have reached the source of all cosmic wisdom. Be it Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed... they have all reached the end of their cosmic life.

All have reached the kingdom of God (Baikuntha in Hinduism). The teachings of the enlightened ones are equal for all. There is no reason for despise or rejection.

As of date you shall find that Christians are turning out to be bigger fundamentalists. They want to capture the world. In dropping bombs in Afghanistan and Iraq... they had lost their sense of ethics and morality. The killing of the innocents and civilians by hundreds... was it all a farce ! The might of the military of USA enjoyed the killings. How inhuman and barbaric these so-called civilized people of the West have been.

You still want to reject the fundamentalist Islamists... why? Are not the civilized people of USA more to blame for the killing of the innocent civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq? Fundamentalism and fanaticism... both ruin the society but who cares !

We need remember here that the followers of fundamentalism shall suffer in the end. The end pages of Quran keep blank. After 2000, according to Quran it is the end of the Islamic fundamentalism.

Similarly Bible also predicts the end of unethical Christian culture at the end of year 2000. The followers of both Islamic Dharma and Christianity are fundamentalists in nature. As per Nostradamus both the communities would destroy each other in the coming World War-III. In the house of God... there is a delay but never the end of justice.

Why blame either God Almighty or the fundamentalist nature of Christianity and Islamic Dharma. Whatever has been sown... has to be reaped ! There is no escape from the clutches of karma. We only reap what we sow... Never more or less! Why worry of the future... the present is in our hands!

In the house of God all are children of God. He never differentiates or discriminates. Amongst 7 billion people living on this Earth there is no cause for worry. Every individual entity in the cosmic system always remains individual. Every living being has an atman soul inside. Every human body rather every living being is governed by the atman soul inside the body

Cultivating Happiness

Focus on cultivating happy people and avoid toxic people. Build protective walls against toxic events that threaten your tranquility. Too much television is tele-visham—tele-poison. Too much stimulation, a mind space crowded by fantasy, people and events, distracts you from working on your own home and backyard to create a healthy self. Some days we seem to live a fantasy life dominated by daydreams while reality tugs at our heartstrings for attention, like a neglected child. There is no use focusing on Aishwarya Bacchan’s beauty while neglecting to do the most basic things to maintain yours. This is the only body, mind and soul you will be given. Take care of what is yours and enjoy it.

Let the cells of your body be gently bathed in happiness, positive thoughts and healing energies. Run from, toxic people and build protective walls against toxic events that threaten your tranquility. The Vedas speak of the self as a beautiful lotus growing in the muddy waters of life. With its roots in the muck it rises above it, in perfect beauty and bliss.

Enjoy the day

Each new day holds out a chance to create a whole new beginning, a sparkling new field of possibilities. At dawn, sweep out the toxic waste of hatred, anger and petty disappointments from your life. Sprinkle the pure waters of prayer on your soul and prepare afresh for a brand-new day. Go peacefully amidst the noise and the haste. Enjoy the sweetness of everyday things. Practice swayambhu―a word that describes happiness welling out of you, like an underground stream in the mountains.

Very rarely will an event or a person crash-land to disturb your life. We all have a choice to make every moment, through our senses, our thoughts and our actions. We can choose what we want to see, hear, touch, taste and smell, think, feel and do. Most of the time, we are responsible for our decisions―for our happiness and unhappiness. We can decide how we want to feel even in the worst-possible situations. To a jealous mind, an innocent smile is proof of adultery. A prisoner can choose to keep the flame of freedom alive within him and maintain a cheerful disposition. Events or people around us are not under our control. But our reactions, our responses to them are. Respond with love and peace.

Nine Emotions (The NAV RASAS)

The mind is filled with emotions, both positive and negative, and the way you deal with them can create a positive field. The nava rasas, a 2000 – year old Indian concept of emotions, can be your guide to understanding the impact of the nine emotions, The motivating force of positive emotions.

The nine rasas are:
• Love
• Humour
• Compassion
• Peace
• Chivalry
• Anger
• Fear
• Abhorrence
• Wonder

Positive emotions or states like love, humour, compassion, chivalry and wonder can create a positive field and put you in a happy and enthusiastic state of mind. This state fills your blood with the chemicals of happiness and well-being and is conducive to the building or rebuilding of a healthy body and mind.

The negative rasas like anger, fear and abhorrence, create a state of mind which create a negative field through filling your blood with the chemicals of unrest and unhappiness.

During meditation, serotonins and endorphins, chemicals that induce peace and tranquility, flow into the blood. Breathing, heart rate and pulse rate stabilize. The mind is able to function calmly and freely. An alert and relaxed attitude is required for the teamwork involved in building ideas and analyzing them.

Laughter / Hasya

The greatest of all miracles is health. Every day, our bodies are attacked by millions of microbes, viruses and bacteria. The body is able to repulse these invaders and protect itself through the immune response. The body’s immune response is enhanced by laughter.

Laughter is internal jogging. It fills your mind space with positive emotions. Emotionally, it is relaxing, reducing the harmful muscle tension. A good bout of laughter also reduces the levels of stress hormones, epinephrine and cortisol. Laughter strengthens the immune system keeping a way infections, allergies and diseases.

Action plan to Bring Hasya into your living place, working place..
• Organize screenings of comedy films and shows.
• Encourage cheerful people to spread good cheer.
• Create a humour committee.
• Smile. Do not smother laughter.
• Organize a family day.
• Exhibit humorous posters and cartoons on a Humour Board in the work area
• Have a smile of the week contest

Veera Rassa

Turning ordinary men into matchless warriors full of the enthusiasm to win can definitely improve performance. Gandhiji did just that, using his magic mantras to infuse courage into the freedom struggle: Do or die, Quit India, Vande Mataram.

Among the nava rasas, chivalry is the key to the life of a warrior: a corporate warrior is no different and needs real courage. Wonder is developed from courage. The rapture of courage is produced by means of energy, perseverance, optimism, presence of mind and kindness. Courage and bravery are definitely feel-good emotions. Courage is represented on the stage by firmness, patience, heroism, pride, zeal, valor and wit. Bravery fills you with enthusiasm, energy and spontaneity. Bravery is not just bravery in war. It is the small, everyday acts of courage that each of us is called upon to manifest in the face of obstacles. The ability to sacrifice, which is the core of emotional intelligence, is a part of the Veera Rasa. The ability to persist in the face of difficulties is a part of this. To meet the jealousy and pettiness of the world with gentleness, humor and fearlessness, is part of it. Brilliance and elegance belong to the true warrior who aligns himself with the powerful forces of goodness. ‘Josh,’ wakefulness, energy and boundless enthusiasm are an expression of this energy.

Action plan to bring courage and Veera Rasa into your life
Enjoy the thrill of overcoming obstacles.
Do not be cast down by failure; instead enjoy the excitement of solving the problem.
Be involved in finding solutions to community problems.
Get involved in speaking up against injustice and resisting evil

Happiness

It is the art of living, the purpose of our existence. Happiness is the true index of quality of life. Without happiness, life is dry and meaningless. With happiness, life immediately becomes fulfilling and wonderful. Happiness is an infectious feeling that immediately lifts the sagging spirits of people. Happy people keep themselves happy because they know the little Ways to appreciate themselves and to see the humor and magic in each moment.

Not long ago I answered a telephone call from an old friend I'd not heard from for a long time. 'Hi,' he said. 'I just wanted to see how you're getting along.'

For whatever reason, our paths had simply not crossed for a long, long, time. It was good to talk with him. I wondered why we hadn't kept in touch better. Toward the end of the conversation, he said, 'If you need me in any way, I’ll be happy to help out.' And he meant it!

That call came at just the right time, as they so often do. I needed those words of encouragement. I hung up the phone feeling a satisfying lump of warmth in my chest.

And that day I re-learned something important about life: Life is primarily about people, not plans and schedules, not to-do lists and a million tasks left undone - it's about PEOPLE!!

To love and to know that we are loved is the greatest happiness of existence. And happiness seems to be something that is in short supply for too many of us!

My friend reminded me that it is never enough just to love; we must also express it. What good are our affectionate feelings toward others if we don't find ways to let them know?

'Do not keep the alabaster box of your love and friendship sealed up until your friends are dead. Fill their lives with sweetness. Speak approving, cheering words while their ears can hear them and While their hearts can be thrilled and made happier. The kind things you mean to say when they are gone, say before they go.'

Happiness is what you are…

Being Happy doesn’t mean everything’s perfect, it means you’ve decided to see beyond the imperfections.

Happiness is not a destination, it is a journey. Happiness is not tomorrow, it is now. Happiness is not a dependency, it is a decision. Happiness is what you are, not what you have.

We tend to forget that…..happiness doesn’t come…..as a result of getting something we don’t have, but it rather comes….by recognizing and appreciating all that we have.

Imagine

There is no limit to what you can imagine and the moment you imagine anything, it begins to come to life. When you imagine, you plant a seed. The more detailed and specific your imagination becomes the more that seed will grow.

Imagine the place you would most like to be then imagining how you could get there. Continue to imagine, in greater and greater detail, and at some point an amazing transformation occurs. The object of your imagination crosses over into reality.

When you imagine, you focus your mind on the possibilities. And your mind goes to work to make those possibilities happen when you imagine, be sure to imagine the very best for what you can imagine sets the stage for where you’ll go’

Change your world

You cannot change the world, but you can present the world with one improved person- yourself.

You can go work on yourself to make yourself into the kind of person you admire and respect. You can become a role model and set a stander for others.

You can control and discipline yourself to resist acting or speaking in a negative way toward anyone for any reason.

You can insist upon always doing things loving way, rather than hurtful way. By doing these things each day, you can continue on your journey towards becoming an exceptional human being. Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy. In your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.

Family vs Work

Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. They are work, family, Health, Friends and spirit and you are keeping all of these in the air.

You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball, if you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls- Family, Health, Friends and Spirit- are made of glass. If you drop one of these they will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for it.”

Work efficiently during office hours and leave on time, give the required time to your family and have proper rest.

Value has a value only if its value is valued

Energy and Enthusiasm

It is energy that causes all beings to act in this world. The higher the level of positive energy, the greater is the accomplishments.

When we are tired, our energy level plummets and we do not feel like doing anything. When the field around is negative with hurt, anger, possessiveness, greed, jealously, fear and abhorrence, we are less able to act with speed, effectiveness and efficiency. These emotions suck the energy and life force out of us. All beings have within them, the all-pervading life force, the same force or energy that creates and sustains life in the universe and nourishes it. It is the universal nature of energy that binds and connects all creatures in a single, networked web. That is why it is difficult to be completely happy while hurting others. The universal life energy acts and lives in all created matter. It is necessary at all times to make sure that the creation of a negative field is carefully avoided.

The Five Stress- Triggering Emotions

Any of the big five emotions—Kama (Lust), Kroda (Anger), Madha (Arrogance), Lobha (Greed), Matsarya (Jealousy) can flood the body with the chemicals of stress. Stress is destructive. Stress is ageing. Stress is a killer.

Stress is the Killer

The twenty-first century will be the century of the Mind. The Mind is man's last unconquered frontier. The Upanishads describe it as fast, fickle and uncontrollable, like a dozen swift horses travelling at breakneck speed. Mankind is paying a steep price for failing to learn more about the Mind before embarking on the race for success in the new millennium. Stress is the price we pay for success. Stress stalks the precarious climb up the corporate ladder. Now we should now what is the Stress. Stress is the culprit.

How Does This Stress Affects us?

Let us consider the most common emotion of this century—anger. What happens when you are angry?

Thirty-six chemicals pour into the blood: Lethal chemicals like adrenaline and histamine. The heart and pulse rates shoot up. The rate of breathing increases. The body gets ready to fight or flee. Digestion is switched off. All parts of the brain, except the primitive 'lizard brain’s switched off. Primitive man who was confronted by a tiger needed this state of high alert to survive in the jungle. Today, this desperate Mayday response, this most primitive survival response, is used frivolously, not to save life, but in response to office politics or traffic jam.

As the blood rushes through the heart, during an anger attack, it raises blood pressure. The force of blood-flow in an enraged person causes minute tears in the tender fabric of the arteries. Fatty deposits find a convenient place to park themselves to repair the tears—cholesterol, the plaster of Paris of the body, slowly builds up to occlude the artery. Soon the tender flexible artery becomes stiff and hard, preparing the stage for a heart attack. To avoid such situation one must do meditation.

Meditation

Enlightened Masters have also shown that meditation produces beneficial effects such as reduction of tension, lowering of blood pressure, relaxation of muscles, increased concentration and work efficiency, and increase of immunological resistance to diseases. As a result, some form of meditation has become an essential part of most holistic health programmes.

Service to others, music, prayer—all are forms of meditation—make the blood flow with serotonins—the happiness chemical. Hindu scriptures enjoin five types of service known as pancha-mahayajna—service to gods; service to sages; service to ancestors; service to humans, guests and the poor; and service to animals. A traditional Indian home, at dawn, feeds ants with the rice-flour rangoli drawn near the threshold, and crows and cows with leftover food.

Eating should be regarded as a sacred act. In an orthodox Hindu home, food is offered to the family deity first and is then consumed as prasad or offering with the deity’s blessing. There is a basic similarity between the rituals involved in offering food to the deity and those involved in eating oneself. In both cases, food is offered as oblations to the five pranas regarded as five fires. Even if one does not follow this ritualistic concept, one should make eating a fully conscious and peaceful act. Hurry, worry, anger, distractions and chattering should be avoided while eating. Because while the food eat during these act hormones are produced are rushed to your stomach and to the blood.

Best way to avoid food in hurry, worry, anger, distractions and chattering.
Your Thoughts

With your thoughts you can open your eyes. What you see in front of you is a function of the thoughts you nourish inside of you. Have you ever thought about a person whom you haven’t heard from in a long time, and then that person suddenly appears again in your life. It may seem magical or supernatural but it’s not.

For your thoughts did not magically cause that person to appear. Instead, your thoughts opened you up to connect with that person to appear who was there all the time.

There are vast expanses of reality that you have never even considered. Your thought can open you up to experience all sorts of valuable and wondrous things.

Life becomes available to you to the extent that your thoughts allow. And the quality of life that you experiences very closely connected to the quality of your thoughts.

Your thoughts are the filter through which you connect with the world where you live. With your thoughts you can choose to experience the best of life’s countless possibilities.

Doubt

Though doubt can stop you cold, you always have the power to overcome it. For your doubts cannot take action, but you certainly can. With each positive action, with each step forward, the doubt will quickly melt away.

There is no need to fight against your doubts. You can simply decide to walk away from them. Though they may have become quite comfortable and well entrenched, your doubts exist only as long as you are willing to support them.

When your desire to move beyond them grows strong enough, then you can easily leave them behind.

Those doubts may seem big and imposing, but all their power comes from your thoughts. And you can choose to turn those thoughts in a completely different and far more positive direction. Think and act in the direction of your dreams. And your doubts will be far behind.
Health is wealth and critical to happiness

Health is a state of physical, mental and social wellbeing, not merely an absence of disease or infirmity. Really speaking, health is not a state but a continuous adjustment to the changing demands of life and the environment. Positive health implies perfect functioning of body and mind in a given society.

Ayurveda defines health as ‘svasthya’—to be one’s own spiritual self. It is the state of equilibrium of the three doshas or mind-body energies that govern our external and internal environment―vata (wind); pitta (bile); and kapha (phlegm), along with a contented state of the senses, mind and soul.

All the ancients believed that no attempt should be made to cure the body without treating the mind and soul. To be healthy is to have the ability, despite an occasional bout of illness, to live with full use of your faculties and to be vigorous, alert and having a joie de vivre, even in old age. This concept of operational health has been termed ‘wellnesses. It is a sense of all-round wellbeing.

Physical Wellness

Your Happiness Quotient (HQ) is directly affected by your physical condition. Health is the foundation for a feeling of wellbeing and joy. It is very difficult to be full of enthusiasm if you are not in a state of positive health. The absence of disease is no indication of this state of perfect health. It is a hygienic factor for improving your HQ.

There are many steps that will take you to a state of optimum health. A complete medical checkup once a year can provide accurate information about the state of your body to your physician. Make sure this becomes an annual habit.

Just as you would not tolerate a minor malfunctioning in your car, so too, you and your doctor should be vigilant for the slightest disturbance in your state of health. Minor problems, aches and pains should be dealt with immediately, rather than be endured with gritted teeth.

Listen to your body. If you are tired, rest. If you are hungry, eat. If you are lonely, communicate, ask for a hug. If you are angry, deal with your anger constructively, resolve it.

The body is our vehicle for the journey of our soul in this world. You may be an immortal soul who happens to own a body, but the body-vehicle has to be maintained in good condition, so that we may achieve the goals for which we were created.
Prana and the Positive Field

An innovation initiative works better in a positive field. So first install the positive field. Prana is the life force that flows in all living things. When the life force leaves the body, the body dies. Kirlian photography has captured pictures of the pranic aura. (Dr. Semyon Kirlian of Soviet Union developed a system to photograph the aura. His researches had taken the western world by storm, and the kirlian system became the subject of intensive research all over the world. The Krilian system has already gained certain acceptance in the Soviet Union and elsewhere as a diagnostic tool for illness and incipient disease (not only human being but also even crops). The logic behind this is an organized energy structure hidden within the gross body of all living beings, any happening on gross plane take place only after this energy shows up signs of disorganization, even before the gross body shows up the disease.

The other system studying human aura is the Schlieran System; this system maps out the air density and flow pattern generated by the warm living body (gross body) in its surroundings. These are invisible to the eye but this system makes available this constantly moving current of flow, for several inches all around the body, to our scrutiny in the form of shining, multi-colored, pulsating aura on the screen. Some scientists suggest that this system too could be considered as diagnostic tool.)

When Prana is in full flow, the person is full of vitality, energy and enthusiasm. Prana is nurtured by freshly cooked, healthy food. It is fed by breathing pure fresh air.

Pranayama is very pro-prana. Moderate exercise and yogic exercise develop the life force. Meditation and a calm attitude cause prana to flow through all our activities smoothly.

Getting too hungry or eating too much, consuming stale food, exercising till you are ready to drop dead, constant arguments, over-working, getting emotionally upset and breathing polluted air, all interfere with the smooth flow of prana. Moderation is the norm.

Prana enhances the positive field and the vital life force flows freely through it. It creates a powerful positive field – a field of all possibilities, where any seed of an idea will develop rapidly.

Happiness and the Positive Field

An old Indian prayer says”Let all Beings be happy”; not just friends and family, but all men; not just men but the wider world of all beings. When the great musician Tansen sang, it is said that deer’s wandered into the palace to listen. The great scientist Jagdish Chander Bose wrote decades ago, about the response of plants to kindness.

There is a Tibetan concept of ‘drala’ by which any space can be made sacred. All religions sanctify space by holy water, prayer, dress and conduct. Hindus draw sacred symbols on the earth with rice flour or chalk (kolam) and a particular space can be set apart for the Gods and prayer.

A sacred space is defined by the rules of conduct laid down for those who enter, as in a room, a church, a temple, the parliament. Very few misbehave in such places; at least they are not supposed to. They are rarely able to cast away the weight of laws and customs built up over centuries around such places.

Some religions lay down rules of cleanliness and dress to enter such places, which include a purificatory bath.

A person who maintains such dignity and decorum, in such a place, may be totally different in a bar or when he is at a party.

The analogy of a TV monitor would describe this phenomenon better. Depending on which button you press, you get a different image. So too depending on the place, a different person emerges. Some place access the Highest and Noblest Self while others access the Beast, the Meanest

This is true about people in different interactions. Some people create a field which accesses the best in us, while others access the worst. If you learn the secret of positive fields, you can improve your Happiness Quotient. You can also get the best out of others.

Be Silent: Listen to yourself

In the silence, become aware of yourself. Be aware of your body as full of health and energy. Visualise peace, tranquility, prosperity and fulfillment. Be silent. Be aware of your breathing, the beating of your heart. Once you are aware of your body in silence, in peace and tranquility, then you begin to notice immediately, the destructive effects of stress. You become aware of the first, imperceptible symptoms: the tightening of the jaw, the clenching of muscles in your throat and abdomen, the speeding of the heartbeat. Once you become aware, you can consciously decelerate. Be completely aware of the shift of feelings from moment to moment. Knowing exactly how you feel can help you make better emotional decisions.

The Auspicious Field

Auspiciousness or a feeling of wellbeing is created in a space or a field by treating it as sacred.

What happens to a space that is sacred is transformation.

When you consider yourself as sacred, you will treat yourself well. You will wear clean, good smelling clothes. Maybe ironed and starched, mended if torn, but clean and fresh. You will smile at yourself, encourage yourself. Just as you put on clean fresh clothes, you will also clean up the mental space or field around you. Sweep out all ill will, anger, fear and anxiety. Let there be the fragrance of incense, divinity of prayer and mantra, the smiles of loved ones, laughter and joy, the smell and taste of good plain, food. It is as important to clean the field around you as it is to have a bath. Sweep out the sad baggage of the past. Take into that field only what is bright and elevating, fine and happy.

The space around you, your house, your office needs the same kind of careful attention. When a space is sacred, it magnetizes wonderful people and attracts beautiful events into it.

All the words spoken in that space should be sweet and loving. When harsh words or events happen, do not allow them to take root like evil weeds. Sweep them away and find gentleness and kindness that grows beneath.

All religions sanctify space by holy water, prayer, dress and conduct. Hindus draw sacred symbols on the earth with rice flour or chalk (kolam) and a particular space can be set apart for the gods and prayer.

If you learn the secret of positive fields, you can improve your Happiness Quotient. You can also get the best out of others. ‘Don’t push the wrong buttons,’ we say. What we mean is, don’t access his negative field.

Love and Reverence in enhancing the positive Field

Elevate everyday experiences to the level of sacredness.

When work is done with such love, it fills the body and mind with bliss and transforms any place into a sacred space. As Kalil Gibran writes in The Prophet, ‘What is it to work with love? It is to weave the cloth from the strings of your heart, as though your Beloved were to wear it.’

This reverence or shraddha is due to all, because of the divine spark that dwells in all men—whether he is a legend or a leper. Sometimes it is obvious. The Divine spark is the silent flame of consciousness that reaches out to you from a flowering creeper or a healthy pet. Sometimes this life force has lost its vitality and is dimmed by dirt, lethargy and lack of care. Clean the glass of your lamp. Make the light shine through. Decide to approach all events, people, and things with affection, shraddha.

The LANGAR made at GURUDWARA is so tasty, no one waste a single grane, because it is made with shraddha. Mother make food for his son who has come after a long period of stay from home. The food is so tasty that he does not stop eating as he is hungry from many lives, because the food is made by mother is with shraddha, that his son has come after a long period.

Tools for creating a Positive Field

An ancient Indian prayer says: ‘Let all beings be happy.’ Not just friends and family, but all men, not just men but the wider world of all beings. When the great musician Tansen sang, it is said that deer wandered into the palace to listen. Decades ago, the great scientist J C Bose wrote about the response of plants to kindness.

Learning to create a positive field is an important part of the climate of wellbeing. The positive field is created by tools and behaviours that may be verbal, tonal and non-verbal.
• A common prayer or mantra.
• A mental process which draws a magic circle around all those who are participating.
• A common exercise, a common company song, common goals.
• A handshake, a friendly look, an encouraging word.
• Thinking, believing and acting in a positive manner.
• Laughter, commonly shared jokes.
• Meditation, practiced regularly, helps develop the capacity to be analytical, positive and disciplined, and eliminate negative fields.
• Affirmations, the most important constituent of the positive field. It is a verbal, tonal or non-verbal act of appreciation. A compliment can be a verbal hug. A verbal hug can replace a thousand words. There is a Sanskrit verse which roughly translated means: ‘Don’t say harsh or hurting words. If you have to say something unpleasant, do it as kindly as possible, while genuinely appreciating the good qualities of the person and the relationship.’ The great Tamil Poet, Thiruvalluvar has expressed it succinctly, when he says, ‘Why say harsh words, when kind words are available. Who would eat bitter, unripe fruit when sweet ripe fruits are at hand?’

However, the energy field around a person is most affected by positive, soul-level motives or ‘sankalpa’. If the gut-level motives are positive, the mere lack of skill in verbal, tonal and non–verbal

The Secret Power of Emotional Fields

Around every person there is a field of emotional energy. Some people always look and feel radiant and everything in their life flourishes and grows. They have a positive energy field around them. Some people, on the other hand, always feel and look morose and tense, everything in their life seems to fade and die. They have a negative energy field around them.

The positive field is created by positive emotions and the negative field draws sustenance from negative emotions.

THE NEGATIVE FIELD

If some people in the group feel excluded, they cannot contribute good ideas or a happy atmosphere. They may even change the nature of a positive field by their unhappiness. Just as a drop of cyanide can poison a clear pool of water, so too the unhappiness of a single person can poison the field in a home or a company. They give off toxic waves of hostility and can turn a flourishing field into a desert.

A negative field is toxic with distrust. In the negative field, individuals are afraid to think differently; new ideas wither before they are formulated. In such a field, only the most obvious ideas, which appear practical and sensible, will be shared. All but the most obvious ideas will be rejected. These ideas will be of little use because they are probably centuries old.

A child who is never praised or complimented turns into an insecure adult with little self-esteem, he does not want to say or do anything that others will laugh at. Continued exposure to the negative field can cause many health problems.

It is easy to identify the negative field in your home or organization. Danger signals may range from a lack of enthusiasm and interest to gross outbursts of rage. Being part of a group belonging a negative field can be a soul sapping experience. The symptoms of such a field are sour looks and suspicion. Politics and manipulation will have a free run. You can identify such a field when the Big Five:- Lust, Anger, Obsession, Greed and Jealousy roam like wild beasts in the garden of your life. You can change the field by first changing yourself and filling the field with the positive emotions like love and compassion.
