What we teach our
Children
What
we teach or try to teach our children is our own selves; Our own conduct,
perfection or attempts to perfection in spite of the natural, circumstantial
etc shortcomings is if not more than, equally important.
Children
learn all behaviour from the adults around them, be it at home or in school!
And as 'responsible' adults in their world we must begin with ourselves first.
We must remain a little less engrossed in the outer world and spare time to
give our children what is of real value - teaching them how to live a life of
peace through finding inner calmness and joy. This is one of the real
techniques that will teach them to value life, and realize that we must value
that of others along with our own, that in giving and spreading joy and peace
by being peaceful ourselves, we can contribute to world peace, brotherhood and
harmony! We have forgotten to teach them how to connect with God and how to
pray in a way that really works, i.e. by teaching to be calm through
meditation. Yes even young children can be taught how to meditate, if we catch
them young!! And this can happen best when we ourselves set the right example
by practicing what we teach/preach.
The
modern age is addicted to factual information. By “addiction” I mean that the
fascination has reached abnormal proportions. It is necessary for us, now, to
emphasise that facts by themselves cannot bestow wisdom. A blizzard of unsuited
information offers no sense of direction, nor any knowledge of where one might
go to find inner peace, poise, and a sense of life’s deeper meaning and joyous
possibilities.
Today's
education system is influenced by industry. They are interested in having
employees with knowledge and skill set which will help profit maximisation. Happiness
and meaning of life are treated as individual requirements and low priority.
A
lifelong learning process involves information (facts), knowledge (sifting
facts), experience (our mistakes) and finally wisdom (which cannot be taught)!
Nothing
needs to be added to but more by way of contemplation as to what ails the
education system, particularly in our country, I would like to express as
under.
If
developing soul consciousness is considered as the ultimate goal of human life,
then we should teach our children to search for happiness within and not to
connect it with the surrounding objects, individuals or events.
First,
it is necessary to set a context for the education that is to know as to why I
am learning what is taught. In this it is important to train the educators such
that they become clear as to the subject being taught. Example; mathematics.
The context is to know that there is an inherent order in everything in the
universe, right from atomic & subatomic level to the cosmological level and
when this context is clear the content of mathematics becomes relevant in day
to day life. And this is true for all disciplines of learning. Second, before
learning anything external it is far more important to learn about the entity
who wants to learn. This was the emphasis in the old method of gurukul system
of learning where the starting point of learning the object of study is to
learn about the subject itself which is primary. Unfortunately these two
fundamental aspects are missing in the current mode of education system. Time
has come to review and rejuvenate the entire system at the most fundamental
level.
Today's
education is mainly based on materialistic gain with selfish attitude, there is
very little place for moral values or spiritual feelings. In fact many a times
these things are lacking in the parents and the teachers itself.
I
wish as parents we should become the teachers to teach these skills at home
first. All schools should make an effort to balance the education system with
better life lessons as well as lessons of factual information.
As
per the New Age, We Human Beings, are More Dependent of things, rather than
doing the Things. In the Morning when we get up, we use Tooth paste, which is
not produce by one self, then we take a Bath with water, which is not filled by
one self, than we eat the Breakfast, which is not made by one self, then we
drive to work, again the thing use to go to work is not made by one self. There
are X no of things which we are dependent. In Olden day, People use to live of
their Own. Isn't this one thing we should teach our Children. Be Independent !!
Knowledge
Management provides clues into what are the right way and the right thing to
learn. Also, Vedas have everything about knowledge management already covered.
Was an interesting experience for me to be subjected to this branch of study!!
Spiritual
and moral laws, like the laws of physics, never change. The excitement of
scientific discovery has captured our imagination, but the laws that rule human
conduct remain unalterable. It is the particular genius of ancient
philosopher-scientists that they expressed these laws in their clearest, most
practical form. Knowledge about our Real Identity or Spiritual Self, and the
technique to manifest that spirituality in daily work a day life alone can help
one to face the challenges of life with peace, tranquillity and love. Career is
only a small component of life, and not the whole of life.
The
only difference between animate and inanimate is consciousness, though God is
in everything. Consciousness is a state and you can be either conscious or unconscious,
consciousness plus mind is the waking state, unconsciousness plus mind is the
dream state, unconsciousness plus no mind is deep sleep state and consciousness
plus no mind is the wakened or the enlightened state. Only an enlightened
master can teach what is good or bad, all other moral teachings are meaningless
in terms of spirituality, in fact it can do more harm than help one to lead a
meaningful life.
One
of the biggest truths. The parents want their children at the helm of issues
solving and living amiably without any hindrance. They are being seen as their
(Parents) mirror image and never let the soul of the children to live in their
way of life. The educational system fully aware of the fact and making use of
the ignorance of the parent milking away the money and put their children to
behave like a slave adapting the desires of the parent and the school. When I
write money there is certainly calculations and making the money at any cost
without considering others benefits whatsoever. When the calculations of
materialistic world come into play there is no spiritual way of life. The soul
never enlightened for a better life.
