When to celebrate New
Year
Hindus,
celebrate New Year on the day when this universe was actually created- Chaitra
Shukla Pratipada !
“When
I read the Bhagavad-Gita and reflected about how God created this universe
everything else seems so superfluous.” – Albert Einstein
Albert
Einstein’s quote is very significant for everyone, especially, Hindus. He was
neither born a Hindu nor did he practice Hinduism; still he could understand
the essence of Hindu Dharma. Like him, there are many other famous people who
have realized that Hindu Dharma offers much more than any other religion.
{However, All Dharma (religions) are telling same thing, but the follower have
not understood the meaning of their creator, the purpose of all religion is
same to reach to Almighty (Parmatma) like all river merge with Ocean. We should
respect all religion and understand.}
In
any Scripture of Hinduism, neither December 31 nor January 1 has been mentioned
as the day when this universe was created. In ancient times (a few thousand
years ago), December 31 or January 1 did not exist. No one celebrated these
days as the New Year. In recent years, December 31 and January 1 came into
existence, followed by its celebration as the New Year.
In
contrast, Sages from Hindu Dharma have studied the creation of universe deeply
and with their Divine abilities, they have precisely identified the day when
the universe was created. They have also calculated the total time span that
has passed by, and when the complete dissolution of universe will occur.
Therefore,
as a follower of Hindu Dharma, celebrating December 31 and January 1 as New
Year’s Eve and New Year Day respectively is like celebrating a birthday on any
random day than on the correct birth day.
Why
we should not celebrate New Year’s Eve on December 31 and New Year Day on
January 1; because it is not only incorrect but it has a spiritually harmful
impact on people and the environment.
Celebrate
New Year on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, when this universe was actually created.
Chaitra
Shukla Pratipada, New Year falls in March-April, similar to Chinese New Year.
The
purpose of New Year celebrations is to derive happiness and joy; but the
celebrations result in many of the untoward incidents. Thus, many people do not
experience happiness or joy from it. The consumption of alcohol, drunken
driving, assaults, etc. are due to an increase in the raja and tama components
in the environment; due to which the negative energies are drawn towards it and
they influence people. The only way to eliminate the raja-tama components and
the influence of negative energies is to celebrate the New Year in a
spiritually correct way. It attracts the Divine principle and sattva component,
thus eliminating the negative aspects.
Greatness
of Hindu Dharma
In
Hindu Dharma, pure thoughts and actions are recommended; due to which people
become more sattvik and generally do not perform raja-tama oriented actions. As
a result, they do not fall in the traps of negative energies. Hindu Dharma
guides an individual not only in his daily routine but also in every action by
telling him how to perform it and gain sattvikta. As a result, an individual
can absorb Chaitanya (Divine Consciousness) from God and remain connected with
Him while living a normal life.
Our
yesteryear Sages had highly advanced sixth sense, developed due to their
intense spiritual practice. They were aware of the subtle negative energies,
their functioning and their adverse influence on humanity. Hence, they guided
us by giving us the code of conduct for every action in our day to day life as
well as during festivals and other celebrations. Following the guidance of
Hindu Dharma, while we engage in activities that give us pleasure, would help
us immensely to enjoy it in a way that will ensure progress and protection for
us and the society.
The
aim of celebrating festivals is in fact to obtain spiritual benefits and not
merely to enjoy. By indulging in the malpractices as mentioned above there is
an adverse impact on us as well as the society. Let us therefore refrain from
celebrating New Year on December 31 but celebrate it on the day of the Hindu
New Year, i.e.; Chaitra Shukla Pratipada falls in March-April.
The
true New Year Day is the day when this Universe was created.
