Love Instead of Like

I was posting on my Face book page a positive affirmation for the day and the Angels said to me, “We don’t guide people to like someone.” I thought they were going to say something about Face book “likes” but they didn’t say anything else. So I asked, “Why?” They responded, “As spiritual human beings, it is in your nature to love but not always to like.”

Loving and liking are 2 different things altogether! There are many in my life that are both to me...liked and loved and some only liked and some only loved. Just the way it is and I know not all people that come into our lives are meant to be there forever....we learn from some and we teach others.

There are some people in our lives that we find are not likable. Can you think of anyone in your life like this? We try and try but we would prefer not to be around them. It’s almost like we are on two different levels when we are talking or spending time together; sometimes not having anything in common. Unfortunately, some of these people are family members. This makes it very hard especially when we are told by family and society that we are expected to have close relationships with them.

So what do we do? The Angels say, “Love them.” Love them where they are at. We should not have any expectations that they will one day change to be who we think they should be or act the way we think they should act. Who they are may be exactly who they need to be to learn their soul lessons. If we were in 8th grade, we would not expect a 3rd grader to take our 8th grade test. They will most likely fail it every time. So we need to stop expecting people to speak, act, and respond like we would. They are not us. Everyone has their own unique path in this life. It doesn’t make some of us right and some of us wrong. We are just different. And that is perfect.

I too, love some but not like them! Yet, if I am to be honest and not self-indulgent, I have to consider that the distinction, is very much a human frailty as, there should be no degrees of Love (as I am sure God's Love is...whatever our concept the Divine). Maybe we should forget liking and concentrate on loving...without judgement ! Maybe liking is Love filtered by judgement and ego?

We are to love everyone exactly where they are in their life, today. If we have no expectations, we will never be disappointed. If we choose not to be speak to them, be around them, etc. that is okay too. The Angels say some of us are staying in relationships because we think we have to be. On the highest spiritual path, we can leave these relationships and not feel like we are doing something wrong. We are not going to get along with everyone we meet. We need to let ourselves off the hook for not liking some people. At the same time we can open up our hearts to love them, even if it means we do that from afar.

We can Love someone and not like them... I loved my mother but I didn't like her childhood behaviour that she just couldn't seem to find her way of breaking loose from the memories that created the person, she became. That didn't stop me from Loving, but not liking her sure did get in the way of our authentic feeling for or another... ' I got to a point in my life when I was no longer going to play that make believe, we love each other game anymore...
