Mahamrityunjaya Mantra महामृत्युंजय मंत्र

ओम त्रयम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् म्रुत्योर्मुक्षिय मामृतात्

Mahamrityunjaya Mantra महामृत्युंजय मंत्र is one among the oldest and most important Mantra's मंत्र in Indian mythology and spirituality. This mantra मंत्र belongs to Lord Shiva भगवान शिव. It is a combination of three Hindi language words i.e. ‘Maha’महा, which means great, ‘Mrityun’मृत्युं means death and ‘Jaya’ जय means victory, which turns into conquer or victory over death. It is also known as ‘Rudra Mantra’ रूद्र मंत्र or ‘Trayambakam Mantra’ त्रयम्बकं मंत्र. The Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra महामृत्युंजय मंत्र is said to have been created by Rishi Markandeya ऋषी मार्कंडया. The Moon was once in trouble, cursed by King Daksha दक्ष. Rishi Markandeya ऋषी मार्कंडया gave the Mahamritryunjaya Mantra महामृत्युंजय मंत्र to Sati सती, Daksha's दक्ष daughter, for the Moon. According to another version this is the Bija mantra बीज मंत्र as revealed to Rishi Kahola ऋषि क्होला that was given by Lord Shiva भगवान शिव to sage Sukracharya शुक्राचार्य, who taught it to Rishi Dadichi ऋषि दधीचि, who gave it to King Kshuva क्षुवा, through whom it reached the Shiva Purana शिव पुराण.

Meaning of mantra

We concentrate on our third eye which lies behind the two eyes and this gives us the power to feel you and by this we feel happy, satisfied and peace in life. We know immortality is not possible but some extension can be given to our death by your powers Lord Shiva.

Significance of Mantra

It is said to beneficial for mental, emotional and physical health and to be a moksha mantra, which bestows longevity and immortality. According to some puranas, the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra महामृत्युंजय मंत्र has been used by many Rishis as well as Sati during the time when Chandra suffered from the curse of Prajapati Daksha. By reciting this mantra, the effect of the curse of Daksha, which could make him die, slowed, and Shiva then took Chandra and placed it upon his head. This mantra is addressed to Lord Shiva for warding off untimely death. It is also chanted while smearing Vibhuti over various parts of the body and utilised in Japa or Homa (havan) to get desired results. Whereas the Gayatri Mantra is meant for purification and spiritual guidance, the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra महामृत्युंजय मंत्र is meant for healing rejuvenation and nurturance.

Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is a heat generated Mantra. The prayer is addressed to Lord Shiva. By Chanting the Mantra divine vibration are generated, which weaved off all the negative and evil Forces, and create a positive and protective shield. This Mantra protects from accidents and misfortunes of every kind. It has a great curative effect from the diseases even declared incurable by the Doctors. It is a Mantra to conquer death. It is Lord Shiva Moksha mantra. It bestows health, wealth, long life, peace, prosperity, satisfaction and immortality. We worship Lord Shiva as the three eyes in one. Where the third eye is the indicator of giver of Knowledge, which destroys our ignorance and releases us from the bondage of cycle of death and re-birth, and who is full of fragrance and who nourishes all being. May He liberate us from death from the sack of immortality. (of Knowledge and truth), just as the ripe cucumber is severed from its bondage (the creeper).

Mahahrityunjaya mantra when chanted with sincerity, faith and devotion in Brahma muharat, is extremely beneficial, but it can be chanted at any time in a pure environment with great benefits.

There is nothing apart from Shiva. There is nothing other than Shiva. Whatever there is, is Shiva. There is nothing which is not Shiva. There is no time which is not Shiva. There is no place which is not Shiva. Remembering the basic conscious seated in the heart is Shiva.
