Science behind the superstitions

When I was young my granny would tell me so many things. Do this, do that and do not do this. Being a rebel, I would do all they do and don’ts. It is a natural trait in me. I have grown up with those many Do and don’ts. As a child I use to hate those do and don’ts. Let me list a few. Many of the do not are for the children as we grow we should give up those do not and understand the science behind those do not.

Earlier it was said not to cut nails at night. Earlier there was no electricity, so one could cut the finger. Maybe for that reason it said so.

Some things which we call as superstitions had a reasoning behind them according to the situation then. Following them now can be called a superstition.

I would like to comment that most of the superstitions are based on scientific evidence.

I strongly believe that eating curd with sugar before some important work/exam is not superstition is backed by science. It is well known that energy levels go up quickly, when sugar is consumed. Exams need heightened energy levels and nothing better than sugar.

1.    Do not play with scissors. Knife & fire. This is a superstition and a major belief system In India. The Science behind this superstition is

a)                   Do not play with scissors is for the children. You cannot tell them you would be hurt. When you say that you would be hurt you have created a Prarabdh प्रारब्ध. What you have said has to come true some day. It has created a Fear thought in the child. It is better way to tell him not to play with scissors and Knife it is bad LUCK.

b)                   The other science behind this is it is nature’s law "Whatever we start it would one day find a conclusive end". Now you can imagine what would be the conclusive End when you play with scissors and Knife. There is an old saying those who live by the sword die by the sword.

2.    Wait for some time when you sneeze: While going out of the home if you Sneeze she would say wait for some time. What could be the science behind this? When we sneeze we sneeze at the speed of 300 kilometre. Just imagine the amount of energy you lost in that one second of a sneeze. That is why the "bless you" Pharse is used, When you find someone sneezing. It is like you are trying to restore his energy back. Some also say drink some water.

3.    When I use to laugh she would say how much you would laugh that much you would cry. The science behind this is this world is ruled by duality. The opposite Prarabh प्रारब्ध is created the moment you have created a particular act. Duality would come to play.

4.    Do not shake the keys: This to me seems to be a metaphorical in nature. And preparing us for our adult life.

5.    I went to an exhibition and bought a wooded craft. She said you should not have bought it. I again asked the science behind it. The science is very simple .You should buy only seasoned wood and should never get home wood which is not seasoned. It has those Small insects which spoils your entire furniture of Sagwaan सागवान wood if it has termite in it. Black magic is also done by such crafts and you are not sure of whom you have bought it from. Again when you say things you create a prarabh प्रारब्ध for that to happen. The science is buy seasoned would.

6.    When you move out put your right foot first. Well I read it as always your first step should be correct and most of the journey is decided when you have your first step in correct direction. First Right step in the right slippers. This is sub consciously training our self to take the first step in correct direction.

7.    The itching palms and the itching toes Good luck again you are growing up and your body is showing you. You have started to itch too. When a guy itch it is said paisaa aiyengaa पैसा आयेगा (metaphorical). Well Grown up have a way to have a sense of humour.

8.    Astrology and future gazing. The present day DNA profiling can accurately show what you are going to do. The present day forensic science can help you a lot to in this direction. What we had in the past as science and superstition must have been developed science in those days and passed on to us as Smirithi समृति. Word of mouth education.

9.    Cigarette smoking is injurious to health a smoker ignored this science and knows it only after being a smoker for many decades. By that time it is too late.

Superstitions are many the sciences behind it too are there. You only need to understand things in right perspective.

Do not cut nails in night - Can cause a skin cut since we cannot see properly.
Do not sweep at night - May be you sweeping valuables along with it. And many more.
