DEATH-----A STATE OF JOY
OR SORROW
Srimad
Bhagavad-Gita श्रीमद भागवत गीता, chapter two is entitled: Sankhya
Yoga संख्या योग: The Eternal Reality of the Souls
Immortality. In this chapter of the Bhagavad-Gita भागवत गीता
are many verse references regarding the reality and science of reincarnation.
1. Just as in the physical body of the
embodied being is the process of childhood, youth, old age; similarly in the
transmigration from one body to another the wise are never deluded.
2. But know that by which the entire
physical body is pervaded is indestructible. No one is able to cause the
destruction of the imperishable soul.
3. The soul never takes birth and never
dies at any time nor does it come into being again when the body is created.
The soul is birth less, eternal, imperishable and timeless and is never
terminated when the body is terminated.
4. As a person gives up old and worn out
garments and accepts new apparel, similarly the embodied soul giving up old and
worn out bodies verily accepts new bodies.
5. The soul is indestructible; the soul
is incombustible, insoluble and un-wither able. The soul is eternal, all
pervasive, un-modifiable, immovable and primordial.
6. For one who has taken birth, death is
certain and for one who has died, birth is certain. Therefore in an inevitable
situation understanding should prevail.
In
this last verse the cycle of life is clearly revealed. From birth comes death
and from death comes birth. Just like in the spring new buds grow which blossom
into flowers and leaves in summer and in autumn change to red, yellow and
orange in fall and blow away and become dormant in winter to begin the process
all over again in the following year. In the a similar way the soul enters new
bodies for its seasons of infancy, youth, maturity and old age and at the end
of its cycle of life is born again accepting a new body for another season.
This is an inevitable process in the material existence and is the automatic
process that governs the birth and death. All beings existing in the material
manifestation completely follow this reality.
Osho says on death ----“Death is always close by. It is
almost like your shadow. You may be aware, you may not be aware, but it follows
you from the first moment of your life to the very last moment. Death is a
process just as life is a process, and they are almost together
If
you understand death your life will become intense and total. But instead of
understanding death, you become overwhelmed by it. Hence the heart starts
trembling with fear. And fear is not going to help at all, fear is going to
cloud your mind even more. Out of fear, there has never been any understanding.
Death
is a constant reminder that, “I can come any moment. Be prepared.” And what is
the preparation? The preparation is: live life so totally, so intensely, be so
aflame with it that when death comes there is no complaint, there is no grudge.
You are absolutely ready because you have lived life so totally, you have known
all its mysteries — there is no point in living anymore. Death has come exactly
at the right time, when you may have thought to die yourself. I call that death
perfect which comes at the moment when you yourself may have thought, “It is
enough
Birth
and death are simply devices, because neither birth is true nor death is true.
We have been before birth, so how can birth be true? And we will be after
death, so how can death be true? Only one thing is true: the consciousness that
comes with you through birth and goes with you through death — perhaps birth is
a door, and death too! Perhaps they are the same door; just your direction is
different.
Only
a person who has enjoyed his life becomes capable of enjoying his death. And if
you are capable of enjoying your death, you have defeated death. Then there is
no more birth for you and no more death for you -- you have learnt the lesson.
Live
deeply, live totally, live wholly, so when death comes and knocks at your door
you are ready -- ready like a ripe fruit to drop. Just a small breeze comes and
the fruit drops; sometimes even without the breeze the fruit drops from its own
weight and ripeness. Death should be like that. And the readiness has to come
through living.
On
the other day I was reading an article about death ---death is a continuous
ongoing process in the body with metabolic process taking place in our body. So
many cells are dyeing; so many are being regenerated even without we being
aware of it .
Death
and life always move parallel to each other rather follow each other. On one
side there may be a funeral procession while simultaneously there may be a
marriage party (बरात) people singing and dancing joyously.
Death
is just a transition / a change of state, again a very significant phenomena in
our life for our survival and growth. From seed à embryo -à fetus- à infant -à
child -à youth à middle age à old
age and finally death. So many stops and junctions in the journey of life. We
eat, breath, drink just imagine if there is no death / change of state how will
we survive.
Do
you know one very important factor in life, if there is no natural death of
cells in the body we as such will die of cancer because cancer is nothing but
the enormous growth of the cells in body as the cells in the body forget to die
says Dr. Deepak Chopra.
So,
never fear death. Again just imagine you are so old, so miserably sick, in
anguish and pain –is it really not so that at such times DEATH comes as your saviour
and relieves you of all your agony and pain.
So,
in order to enjoy DEATH start living every moment to best of your potential so
that you can enjoy life and be able to welcome DEATH also and can say good bye
with a smile on the face .
Important---If a man has been preparing,
getting ready, at the moment of death the master can be miraculously helpful.
Just a word at the right moment and the flame inside suddenly explodes, you
become enlightened – because the moment is such, so intense, you are so
concentrated at one point. To overcome the fear of death one very easy way I am
suggesting ---whenever you sit for your prayers just observe ABHAY mudra अभय
मुद्रा and you will notice in few days that
the fear is really gone / vanished
