A
Lesson
A young man said to his Pa, “I met a very
beautiful girl. She has gorgeous eyes and I want to marry her.”
Pa said, “Of course, sonny. Let’s ask for her
hand in marriage.”
When the father saw the girl, he instantly
fell for her beauty and told his son, “You don’t deserve this girl. She needs
someone who has experience in life. Someone who she can depend on. Someone
like... me.”
The boy, aghast by the attitude of his father,
angrily retorted, “She’ll marry me, not you!” They began to fight. Finally they
decided to go to the nearest police station to find help for their problem.
The police officer, hearing their story, told
them, “Bring the girl so we can ask her opinion on this.” When the officer saw
the girl, he was dumbstruck by her beauty.
He then told the young man and his father,
“You both don’t deserve her. She needs someone who has prestige like...me.”
The three men started to fight and eventually
decided to go to a minister to help solve their problem. The minister upon
seeing the girl was stunned by her beauty and said, “She deserves to be married
to a minister like me.”
The prince of a nearby kingdom heard of the
problem and the fights. He asked to talk to all the men involved to help solve
the problem. But...when he saw the girl he said, “This girl will marry me.”
All the men started to fight. Finally, the
girl offered a solution to the problem – “Let’s play ‘catch me if you can’.
Whoever catches me first, he’ll be my husband.”
All five men started running to catch her.
Suddenly all of them fell into a deep hole.
The girl said to them from the top, “Did you
know who I am?”
"I am the world!"
Lesson: People are desiring and running after
wealth, beauty, fame and all earthly pleasures. In so doing they end up living
their entire lives “chasing the wind”.
