MAHADEV / Mahesh (Shiva)
Mahesh
(Shiva) is
only superior among the three Deity.
That is why he is called MAHADEV. He gave us Shiva Ling.
He gave us all the symbols of Shiva,
A (Ling), with the structural, physical shape. His concert is SHAKTI (PARVATI, DURGA) power, Shiva is satisfied with Power/ Force.
According
to the Gita, impulse is Vegam or force. Lord
Krishna says, "He who is able to endure here on earth, before he is
liberated from the body, the force born of desire and passion, he is harmonised,
he is a happy man".
Impulse
is a mighty force. It exerts influence on the mind. It is a force suddenly
communicated to the mind.
Lord
Siva is the deity symbolically presents the controller of death/ destruction
(the destruction is for further construction). Mahavishnu and Lord Siva are
said to be connected through hearts (which only means inseparable) Vishnoasya hrudayam siva: Sivosya hrudayam
vishno – says Upanishads and Yajurveda.
Symbolically
Lord Siva has powerful fire in the
third eye, powerful water and torrential air symbolically tied in the tuft and
the snake around the neck (symbol of international medical association) and tri sool in hand. All the five
respectively present destruction through fire, water (flood, etc) air (cyclone/
tempest, etc) diseases and using weapons. Parvati
(means energy/force/sakti) is
symbolically presented as the wife of Lord Siva.
Through this combination of Lord Siva
and Parvati, it is shown that the
destruction for construction can take place with powerful application of any
one or more of the above five. (Powerful fire, air, water, diseases and weapon
only have the destruction capacity). Thus they become inseparable hence the
concept of Ardhanaareeswara comes up.
In fact the Brahma Vishnu Maheswara
sankalpa and the Lakshmi Parvati
Sarswathi sankalpa are the symbolic presentation of the life cycle
spiritual- social and physical level when scientifically explained. Always the
Hindus consider the knowledge, prosperity and sakthi/power in feminine gender. These explanations (of the gods)
are the connecting layers of Vedic
and puranic concepts of gods.
The
most important is opening of the
Third EYE – Pineal Gland --The pineal gland is a structure that lies in
the very centre of the brain on the ventricular system. This gland is sensitive
to light and secretes hormones called melatonin, which is related to mood,
wakefulness, and other states of awareness. The Pineal gland represents the
third eye of SHIVA in the physiology.
The
three eyes of Lord Shiva are often
the focus of mythological interpretations and mystic curiosity. Representation
of His manifestation in humanlike form should have shown only two eyes like the
normal humans have. Is the third eye mere all egoric depiction? Or, does it
signify some hidden facets…? In fact, the third eye symbolizes the source of
sagacity – pure, discreet wisdom. This centre in the human body is hidden
subtly in an endocrine gland inside the brain right behind the position (on the
forehead) where the third eye of Shiva
is depicted.
The
Biophysical energy released from your body is called the opening of third Eye. A Third Eye- Name given to the process,
whereby the full potential of man’s Biophysical, mental, and emotional energy
released, integrated and focussed. The third eye opens only when the Shiva does the Tandav Nritya is done.
Incidentally Colin
Wilson in his book THE OCCULT, says that occult power are within human
body. “Researchers to the “PINEAL EYE”
the organ in the brain that the Hindus declare to be the seat of the Occult
power were assumed to be a vestigial eye although no one quite decides that use
an eye would be in the middle of the brain.
In the present century scientists began to recognize an
odd connection between the pineal eye and sexuality. It was established that
the organ is a gland not a vestigial eye and that it produce a hormone that was
labelled melatonin, melatonin is produced by the action for a certain enzyme
upon a chemical called serotonin.
The real mystery begins here. This chemical has been proved to have a
great deal to do with evolution of species. The primates, Men, and apes have
more serotonin than any other species. Which seems to be manufactured in the
Pineal Eye. And one of its functions is to inhibit sexual Development and to increase intelligence. This seems to explain,
why most intelligent human beings seems to be late developers sexually and why
early developer are seldom. If ever remarkable for intelligence. Pineal Eye also called A Third Eye
However still, what is and who is Mahadeva
is a subject totally different to explain
Tangible
symbol of cosmic union
It is surprising that in India, the place of
origin for Kama Sutra and Tantra, sex is something that is frowned
upon or even feared. Most of us treat our sexuality as something that should be
talked about in hushed tones.
This unnatural fear may have risen from the
fact that we often do not understand the awesome force of sexuality. It is true
that intense desire actually blurs the mind or even creates confusion and a
feeling of insecurity. The reason behind this sense of insecurity is the truth
that intense desire also means letting of the ego- to be completely selfless,
to seek other’s pleasure before achieving one’s climax and to seek total
oneness with the significant other. But to be completely abandoned without a
thought to another thing is something that is not easily possible for most
people. Our desire to escape from its overwhelming intensity alone is what
creates an antithetic view of sex where none actually exists.
So we tend to view sex either in a positive
light or in a negative light. But the truth is that the sexual force that is
inside us is neutral and is multidimensional at the same time. It is intense,
natural and healthy, and represents the power of creation itself. It is in
truth the creative energy that is in it a divine and a spiritual force. For if this energy did not exist within us
then we would not be able to replicate God’s an act of creation, the main stay
of our existence on this planet.
Our ancients have said that it is this same
cosmic energy that is present in living beings as the sex force. So Hindu regarded this energy as sacred,
something that is worthy of being worshipped, not fettered away. We also need
to embrace the multidimensional nature of our sexual feelings. The human
experience of the sexual instinct is never static, but it is ever changing. So
it is physical, psychological, emotional and even spiritual. (That is opening of the third eye of Lord
Shiva- Name given to the process,
whereby the full potential of man’s Biophysical, mental, emotional energy
released, integrated and focused. )
When
we make offerings to the Lingam and invoke Shiva
and Shakti, we are acknowledging and
celebrating the fact that Shiva and Shakti are not separate. That is, as
husband and wife, Shiva and Parvati may appear to be two but in
facts they are but one. Hence we give so much importance to the Lingam in Shiva
temples across region. The concept of unity is very relevant in family life as
well. The husband and wife must live with one mind; they need to complement
each other. The Shivalingam is a
miniature representation of the egg-shaped universe.
