Is history the result of personal endeavor? Do people shape events, or do events people? Are we ruled by karma कर्म and controlled by the stars and planets, the lines in our hands, or are we the architects of our destiny?
This ancient debate seems irresolvable. For millennia, humankind has been unable to establish causes for events. This discussion has occupied the minds of great thinkers for centuries. History students grapple with the problem, philosophy graduated seek answers to this enigma, ethicists wrestle with moral mazes, but scholars and seekers alike cannot establish consensus. Religious leaders daunted by world events struggle to give answers. The issue seems impenetrable. Is it timed to give up and move on to something less abstruse?
It’s fashionable for us and in line with western capitalism to think we can control our future and thus progress, economically and socially. Working for justice and mercy is required, as faith isn’t found in fatalistic inertia, but the metaphysical dilemma never dies. What do saint and sages say? Are we always controlled, or are we free? Well, look out; because, ancient books of truth tell us that freedom and destiny (or roughly speaking karma) exist side by side. The crude example is driving on the wrong side of the road. We have the free will to do so, but it’s unsafe. Both karmic कार्मिक destiny and free will operate here.
According to Shastric शास्त्रिक knowledge, even pre-destined reverses or apparent curses can be seen as blessings, and mistakes the pillars of success. From this perspective one is always free, in success or failure, life or death. Lord Brahama भगवान् ब्रह्मा tells us that Govinda गोबिंद extinguishes sinful reactions for those who, with devotion, value him. In other words, spiritual commitment is to see the “invisible hand” of God directing our activities, such that instead of being left to the rule of karma कर्म , we can rightfully act in accord with the wishes of God, and find reverses to be blessings disguise.
Varahamihira वराहमिर says that Astrology, like a lamp throws light on the dark recesses of the future and reveals the results and consequences of Karma कर्म done in previous lives.
Tolerance is a value, and he or she, who can endure the ‘whips and scorns of time, patently waiting better days is a person of character. Those who are free from lamenting over losses, and the euphoria that comes with achievement, are not just drably stoical and unfeeling, but wise, content and happy. A person of steady mind is unflappable in any situation, and worthy of our respect and emulation.
Action and reaction hold the stage. When the reaction gathers magnitude one cries for succor. Then death comes. But the reaction persists and that leads to Rebirth / Reincarnation-? What do we mean by that? When we give up the body then and there he catches the mind. After that it is a question of time, may be just now, may be one day, may be a few years, we come back in a different body.
Unless and until one’s (destined unfolding process of one’s life) is full, until one is merged with God, One’s mind will have to come back, will have to again take a body in this world.
When a person is born, one day he or she must leave the body. The real thing is that nobody goes elsewhere, only the body changes and transforms while the soul exists. We cannot see while the soul leaves the body, we say it goes away, but there is no scope for going beyond the Universe. There is one very secret thing. The elements of the body transform and change. The combination of Hydrogen and Oxygen form water, again under certain condition oxygen and Hydrogen separate and go to their former conditions. If we say, vanish it is not correct. The word transformation or change is more correct. The most secret mystery is the attachment or Maya माया for the body. We feel nothing for the oxygen or hydrogen so we feel nothing about their transformation or change. We feel sorry for the death of mother or father or whoever it may be because of an attachment. Death is nothing but a change or transformation. We shall try to understand the Origin. If we catch hold of the root, then we will understand the branches.
But only a few of us realize that we are borne of him, life in him all the waking moments and all through the state of quite slumber and finally merge in him on the day of reckoning. We forget the self- our real nature and squabble and lament over things that must pass the bubbles that must burst ( Paani kera Budbuda, As manus ki jaat, dekahat he chup jayega jyon tara prabhat.) पानी केरा बुदबुदा अस मानस की जात, देखत ही छुप जाएगा ज्यों तारा प्रभात । In fact we are bubbles, who forget that we belong to the majestic Ocean, can we ever imagine of any bubbles without Ocean? Can we separate the sunlight from the Sun or the arresting aroma of the flowers from the flower itself? The greatest tragedy of man is that he is propelled by his ego that he is separate and superior। Carried away by the patty transient glories of life he has lost sight of his true nature. Sri Ramakrishna श्रीरामकृष्ण compares the world of non-self to zero. The zero has no value in itself, we may add Zero after zero, to make a figure, but it has no meaning. But with the digit one in front of them suddenly makes sea of difference, with every additional zero the figure becomes significant, likewise Sri Ramakrishna श्री रामकृष्ण used to say the pursuit of the shadows in our life is but the series of Zeros without the digit at the beginning. Only Atman आत्मा permeating every thought words and deed success is bond to crown our life.
To the modern World vitiating the atmosphere with unbridled violence pilling up weapons of destruction that decimate the human race hundred Times over, but doing little to wipe off the tears of children of poverty and war. Today’s permissive society is heading headlong towards disaster. Woman has today become an object of bestial lust, the gold mine of porn peddlers, the stock-in-trade of Blue films, and all in the name of modern thinking.
We shall try to know our birth, why we have come here and what our purpose is. God never created us for suffering or bondage or agony. Rather He suffers for us, because when we were born we forgot His purpose. Our ego is the cause of suffering and bondage. Complete surrender to God is the only way to get rid of ego and knows our purpose, which is to enjoy the Play of the Divine. Then we will understand what birth is.
Space and time exist only in our mind. Space and time each have infinite dimensions. Every segment of space is present in every other segment. Every split second also is present in every other second. So space and time are both ubiquitous (everywhere simultaneously). Time is a ceaseless duration and spaces an unfettered expense. Matter is one. Indistinguishable, it wears different looks on different occasions. There is no dichotomy of matter and spirit; they are one integer that is the sole Reality.
The whole process of thought materializing into deed is a series of karmic cycles. An awareness of these eternal laws gives us the power to alter the course of karma but not while in the midst of a karmic कार्मिक cycle. We have the power of wisdom and choice of free will to review and make changes to our life but not before the cycle comes to an end. A frog in mid-air cannot alter the course of its flight. However, on landing, it can choose the direction of its next leap. For true transformation we have to discover love, for which we need divine assistance.
