Fear of Death-1

Death has always been the most dreaded factor of life for any living being. It is not only the humans who are afraid of death... animals and other forms of life also feel the same!

What makes death the most fearful of all attributes of God? There is none who can defy death. Only after gaining self-realization and enlightenment that one becomes immortal. It is this stage when the fear of death vanishes for ever. Every God realized Master and an enlightened individual finally overcomes death.

What is to death that is feared about most? Death announces the end of the physical manifested journey on Earth. Whatever be the achievements of an individual in any phase of life... be it the form of an insect, animal or the human being himself... all seems to have gone wasted!

After death of body... none remembers what the next manifestation would be! For the present being all is lost after death of body. The entity for which it lived all through in present life seems to be lost forever the moment the death of body occurs.

The achievements in present life... do they carry no value. Why does not God Almighty show mercy on human beings and increase their life span proportionate to their achievements in the physical manifested life.

It is a remote possibility that such an arrangement may have worked. Probably God Almighty did not have able advisers. People of the level of Edison and Einstein may have continued living for thousands of years. In doing so they would have immensely benefited the mankind and for God there was nothing to lose. But so was not destined by God. Why?

Why is it so that death makes an uninteresting subject! We may have laboured for a full 30~35 years... the prime-time of our life having spent in creating an enormous wealth. But when comes the time for death of body... All shall be left behind. Why?

In the system of God... nothing seems to be disordered or incomplete. Stephen Hawking in his book "a Brief History of Time" has advocated that the system of God is disordered at some stage. He is absolutely in the wrong. He is trying to place his judgments based on science. There are many factors in the field of spirituality which are purely based upon faith.

The conclusions of Stephen Hawking were wrong for the complete cosmic system is without a parallel. It has no flaws... such a phenomenon can never be! Everything in whole Cosmos is governed by laws which are a creation of the Creator himself.

If death was designed by God as it stands today... then how can it be that the achievements of an individual in a particular life remained unpaid? The balance of the whole Cosmos would get disturbed on this account. The law of karma was primarily created by God to maintain this aspect of life.

It is the doctrine of karma which makes the achievements of one life carried forward to the next manifestation. It is through the chromosomes that whatever has been achieved by one in present life shall get automatically transferred to next life.

Talking of death, near death experiences, sudden death and subjects like life and death... science has a very limited role to play for it is only the parameter of faith which shall lay bare the doors of wisdom for us. Never as a scientist can one enter the domain of God.

Albert Einstein in his end part of life when he was nearing death realized the importance of having faith in the system of God. It was too late by then. He regretted not having indulged into reading Bhagavad-Gita... the foremost of all sacred Scriptures existing on Earth. He realized his folly that standing on the platform of science... talking of spirituality carried no sense.

Standing on the 30th floor of Empire State building one cannot have a glimpse of the entire New York as it would appear if one was standing on the top of the building. To have a complete view from the top we have to rise to the top. And it is only riding the ladder of faith in the system of God can one reach the highest domain of life... the 84 Lakh yoni / manifestations.

Einstein was a pearl amongst the total scientific community of his age. He was wise enough to have admitted his folly.

As was destined by God Almighty... life goes on and on. The truth is... the present physical manifest form of life carries no meaning for God Almighty. What is to be understood is that it is our soul the atman within that has taken the body and not vice versa.

All the benefits of the karma performed by the body belong to our soul the atman within and this soul is on its cosmic journey of 84 Lakh yoni / manifestations on the whole. Life moves from one manifestation to another with ease. Nothing is lost midway. Whatever be the achievements in a particular manifestation... they are definitely transferred to the next manifestation.

Life runs on truly as a balance sheet compiled by an accountant. The closing balance of the earlier manifestation becomes the opening balance of the new manifestation. Weighing things from the senses point of view the two manifestations are not related but in the world of Souls / Atmans all is part of the system of God which cannot err.

If we fathom the fact that it is our soul the atman within which is the beneficiary of all the karma performed... the hard feelings against the death of a body would not only diminish but altogether vanish.

The death of a body is merely the end of a particular phase in cosmic life. It is not the end of the journey itself. The journey was undertaken not by the body but by our soul the atman within.

The theory of evolution as confounded by Charles Darwin also proves this point. Life evolves from one manifestation to another and in the normal routine the next manifestation normally is the next step higher.

What our next manifestation would be is purely dependent upon the karma performed by an individual. If we have a negative balance of karma then our next manifestation would be of a lower level than the present one. However if we have a positive balance of karma than we are definitely bound to get elevated to the next higher platform in life on the cosmic scale!

The switchover from one manifestation to another is absolutely smooth. In present life the family weeps bereaved of the death of body in the family but for the soul atman that shall be manifesting a new phase in life is like a student waiting to get a new blazer in the next semester. A bonus indeed!

Life and death are correlated in the cosmic system of God. And the balance is maintained by the law of karma. If we understand the significance attached to our soul atman taking the body then the cause for worry of the death of body would immensely reduce.

While proceeding on any journey... we always know there has to be an end! The journey would not be complete if there was no end. The death of body announces the end of the present journey. The death announces that our soul the atman within is about to manifest another body.

It is altogether a different matter that no two manifestations are ever related. It could not have ever been. If I come to know in present life that one of my best friend was the cause of my death in one of the earlier manifestations then it shall be bloodshed thereafter. No human being would be able to ever forgive one for a grave offence like causing the death of a body.

In such matters forgiveness can be preached but it is most unlikely that one is likely to practice it. The remembrances of the past manifestations would have created animosity and chaos in whole Cosmos. The whole system of God would have failed that very moment. It was not to be.

Death announces a new life... a new journey for the soul our atman within! Where is the cause of any fear! Life is supposed to be lived. Every moment is precious. We must always remember without fail that every causation in present life results in equal reaction. The balance of karma of the present life that shall be is absolutely dependent upon the karma performed by us.

Hopes and desires carry no weightage when talking of life and death. As we perform so shall be the next manifestation. We cannot expect mangoes to grow on a guava tree... similarly no miracles ever occur in life as life is absolutely governed by doctrine of karma.

We must always put our best step forward so that the balance of karma in present life always remains positive. We must strive that the balance of positive karma enhances in present life as compared to the previous life. Only then our soul the atman within would be able to expedite its journey of reaching the stage of liberation... finally getting emancipation from the cycle of Birth and Death forever.

It is this end goal of reaching stage of enlightenment and finally the stage of Salvation Moksha in Hinduism that is the climax of cosmic life our soul the atman within is passing through. Salvation announces the end of cosmic journey for soul the atman within! One has reached the pinnacle of cosmic glory... the journey finally coming to an end.

What is Death?

When the word Death is heard, a lot of thoughts and emotions immediately come into our minds. Most of us feel fear, sadness, and loss or just simply have a sense of uneasiness come to us. Why is that? Could it be because we were taught from birth that death meant something other than what it is? That when we can no longer see someone or something, that it is dead? Non-existent? Where did this word death come from? If God created all, would he allow his creations to become non-existent? Dead? If God is Love, would He create something just to have it become non-existent in a very short period of time? After all, how could Love create death?

In our world here on earth, everything has its opposite. Happy and sad, rich and poor, light and dark, strong and weak. There is even an opposite of our true selves; Spirit and Ego. If you will notice, one part of an opposite is Positive, and the other is Negative. One part is good and the other is bad. We would always prefer the positive over the negative or the good over the bad. We would surely choose Life over Death. So where did these opposites come from? Did God create them? Or did we.

When we were created, we were created in the likeness of God. If God is all Love, then we were created as Love. An opposite did not exist. But God also created us as Free Will creatures. Free Will against what? He created us with Free Will against ourselves. He gave us Free Will to believe in our true selves (Spirit) but we chose to create an illusion self (Ego). God is Love and therefore does not make his children do or think anything. It is our choice. As we grew and experimented, we began to have more faith in what we could see. What we could not see simply did not exist. We chose appearances. We became more physical than intuitional. We became so out-of-touch with God and his Love, that we began to experience hardships. At this time we created our own God, the Ego. If you can understand this, then you will begin to see that all of the negative opposites were also created by us. All of our hardships were created by us. They are all illusions. They are not real, and that includes the Ego.

If we can understand that God is Love, and Love is positive, then the negative opposites must be NOT real. The opposites of Love such as hate, dark, fear, weak, and evil must be illusions that were made up by us as a coping mechanism to weigh against our hardships. The more that we chose appearances over our intuition, the farther away we became from the Truth. But we will never forget the Truth. We will always know right from wrong, good from bad, light from darkness. Our true self (Spirit) will never die to the illusion self (Ego), because there is no death. We will always sense the Spirit and strive for positive qualities because that's who we are. We are God's spiritual children.

So, what is death? Death must also be an illusion made up by us through fear of choosing wrong. Death is not real and is also a negative opposite that we created. It does not and cannot exist for anything. Nothing dies. The concept of death became a belief to us because our true source could not be seen and therefore did not exist. We viewed a body that no longer breathed and through our limited thinking, called this death. As soon as we can begin to accept ourselves as Spirit and a part of the unseen, the sooner we will be able to shed the illusions that we have created. What is Death? Death is nothing. There is only Life.

We die every night, every night we go to sleep, and get up in the morning in a new life. This is also a type of death. We wander here and there, see many thing in dream, miraculous scene and then in the morning we find our self in the original shape. Death what we call, is we are in deep sleep and there will be a beginning of the next life.

Life is a celebration of Love.

"A true pure heart is not how much and deeply you pray or how deeply you meditate but only by embodying the heart of a child with complete acceptance that everyone is sacred embodiment of unconditional love that only wants to live for the sake of others, a child that always dance in life in all circumstances and give more love in this world with overflowing forgiveness in the heart - a true peacemaker, a true giver of love.

~ Jesus Words

We all knew that even after Adam and Eve fell in the Garden of Eden, they were still able to communicate directly with God. Do you think that after the days of the Old and New Testaments, God has for some reason become deaf and dumb? No, God is very much alive, and today we can talk directly to Him. God can speak to you, and you can have a direct confrontation with God.

The book of Acts of the Apostles says that in the Last Days, ' . . . your sons and your daughters shall prophesy and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams . . . ' (Acts 2:17)

We must know the truth. We have to know how to nurture our heart for citizenship into the Kingdom of True Love, the Kingdom of God. We have to know the true essence of living a life of giving only LOVE...for the Second coming of the Son of man has arrived on earth.

Let us look at the scriptures and clarify how the Lord of the Second Advent will appear. In Luke 17:20-21, Jesus was asked by the Pharisees how the Kingdom of God was coming on earth, Jesus answered,

'The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; . . . the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.'

Jesus then told his disciples, 'The days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and you will not see it'

But if the Lord comes in the clouds of heaven, how could we not see it? Revelation 1:7 says, '. . . every eye will see him, everyone who pierced him . . .'

What can this mean? Why would we not see him? The only way we might miss that day is if we look for the Lord to come from one direction, and he appears from another direction in an entirely unexpected manner, just as Elijah did at the time of Jesus. This is the reason you may not see the Lord at the time of his Second Coming.

Who would dare deny him?

Another mysterious prediction was given by Jesus Christ himself. He declared about the Lord at the Second Coming: 'But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.' (Luke 17:25)

If Christ at his Second Coming appears in the glory of the clouds of heaven, who would dare deny him? Nobody would cause him suffering and pain.

The only way this prophecy can be fulfilled is if people expect his return from the clouds and he suddenly appears as a humble man in the flesh. Do you not think that Christian leaders of today would make the same mistake that the priests and scribes and elders committed at the time of Jesus? Yes! They may very well deny him and reject him, because the manner of his coming would be very difficult for Christian leaders to accept. However, in this way the Bible will be fulfilled. He will first suffer and be rejected by this generation.

Jesus once asked a most important question: 'When the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?' (Luke 18:8)

How does this question concern us today, when Christian faith covers the face of the earth? It is because although we do have faith today, it may be mistaken faith--a belief which expects the Lord must come on the clouds of heaven. There are few men on earth with the kind of faith ready to accept the Son of Man even appearing in the flesh. If this were not the situation, the Bible would not be fulfilled. Please note that Jesus did not say there would be no believers, but he said there would be no faith.

Jesus also said, 'Not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?" And then will I declare to them, "I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers."' (Matt. 7:21-23)

This prophecy cannot be realized if his Second Coming is on the clouds of heaven.

At the time of the Second Advent, people will again be crying out, "Lord, Lord." At the same time they may be in the process of trying to crucify the Lord of the Second Advent himself if he appears in a manner different from their own expectations. They will then be the worst evildoers, as prophesied.

This is the truth. Those who truly have eyes will see. Those who truly have ears will hear. Throughout history, God has sent His prophets before the time of fulfilment. He warns the people of His plan. No matter how devout Christian faith is today, no matter how many millions of people are in the Christian churches, they and their churches and their world will be doomed to decline once they fail to accept the Lord, however he may appear....and people must embrace the New Expression of truth that we must eradicate hate in our hearts and forgive all. This was the tragic fate of the people of Israel when they denied Jesus Christ, regardless of their righteousness otherwise.

We must therefore also be open to a new message. Jesus Christ did not come to repeat the Mosaic Law. Just as Jesus revealed himself with the new truth, the Lord of the Second Advent will reveal himself with God's new truth for our time. That truth will not be simply a repetition of the New Testament. We must love God more than our willingness to live, with love, respect and forgiveness to all mankind.

The Lord will not appear miraculously in the clouds of heaven. Why? Because God is sending His Son to restore the things that once were lost. The first ancestors lost the Kingdom of God on earth. Fallen Angel Lucifer invaded the world in the Old Testament and took Eve to his side, and then Eve took Adam away, leaving God alone spiritually and denied by the people. All people have therefore suffered under the bondage of evil. God must send a new ancestor for humanity, to begin a new history. All of us must forgive one another, uplift everyone, respect everyone as sacred and do a lot of goodness to others, give our best to live on earth with much gratitude and love to God and all mankind."

The Puranas

"Tales of Olden Days" These extremely popular tales of the origins and doings of the gods date from between 300 and 1,000 C.E.

The Puranas are of the same class as the Itihasas (History). They have five characteristics (Panch-Lakshana):

1. History
2. Cosmology ( with various symbolical illustrations of philosophical principles)
3. Secondary creation
4. Genealogy of kings
5. Manavantaras

All the Puranas belong to the class of Suhrit-Samhitas.

Rishi Ved Vyasa is the compiler of the Puranas from age to age; and for this age, he is Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa, the son of Parsara.

The Puranas were written to popularize the religion of the Veda. They contain the essence of the Vedas. The aim of the Puranas is to impress on the minds of the masses the teachings of the Vedas and to generate in them devotion to God, through concrete examples, myths, stories, legends, lives of saints, kings and great men, allegories and chronicles of great historical events.  The main Puranas are:

3. Srimad Bhagavata Purana,                           
4. Garuda (Suparna) Purana,                
5. Padma Purana,                                              
6. Varah Purana,                                                
7. Brahma Purana,

Of these, six are Sattvic Puranas and glorify Vishnu; Six are Rajasic Puranas and glorify Brahma; six are Tamasic Puranas and glorify Siva.

The best among the Puranas are

• the Srimad Bhagavata and
• The Vishnu Purana.
• The most popular is the Srimad Bhagavata Purana. Next comes Vishnu Purana. A portion of the Markandeya Purana is well known to all Hindus as Chandi, or Devimahatmya. Worship of God as the Divine Mother is its theme. Chandi is read widely by the Hindus on sacred days and Navaratri (Durga Puja) days.

Science and spirituality:

The discovery of the powers of Nature, their organization and the skills that make them useful to man is called science. Science can thus be called the unison of matter and consciousness. Science has made possible the progress of the human civilization.

It should be noted that the knowledge of the use of matter is not enough; its righteous use should also be considered. The same criterion also applies to consciousness. In the absence of their righteous use, matter and consciousness are open to be abused. The attraction of immediate gains is such that its long-term effects are not appreciated and this shortsighted judgment prompts man to misuse power. Ultimately, he creates a web in which he gets trapped, just like a fish caught in a net. This results in suffering, public anger and self-destruction, and yet it is a practice generally adopted by most people. The society and the government rarely succeed in preventing such practices....

Science can be legitimately credited for the current progress and prosperity, but it is incapable of differentiating between use and abuse. The only way to control its misuse is to incorporate wisdom based on foresightedness and the nobilities associated with human glory. This is the essence of spirituality. Spirituality means, "centered and established on the soul", that is, activities in life are designed keeping the awakening of the soul as the aim. The soul is the individualized consciousness present in the human body.

Consciousness is more powerful than matter. As discussed earlier, it is the miracle of consciousness that organizes matter in an orderly way. However, unrestrained consciousness has drawbacks too. For example, it is easy to find faults in others, but does anyone try to observe his own self for their own faults? Usually, an individual is biased towards his shortcomings and considers him self the best. A person trying to prove him self right will present several arguments in his favour. This distorts the reality and generates undesirable thoughts.

The dual accomplishment of the righteous use of science and the refinement of consciousness is possible only through spirituality.

The great divide:

Since the 17th century, when modern science made its first appearance, it has clashed with religion/spirituality. At the root of the clash lie two streams of beliefs. Science believes everything is made up of matter and therefore ought to be demonstrable through experiments.

A spiritualist insists that pure Spirit is reality, not matter. The great Indian seer-sage Sri Aurobindo has termed the scientific viewpoint as "the materialist denial" and the spiritual viewpoint as "the refusal of the ascetic" in his magnum opus The Life Divine. Discussing these issues further, Sri Aurobindo says the premise of science is that the physical senses are our only means of obtaining knowledge. Therefore, reason cannot transcend the reach of the senses and so, says Sri Aurobindo, "it must deal always and solely with the facts which they [the senses] provide or suggest." Science says that we cannot go beyond our senses and cannot use them "as a bridge leading us into a domain where more powerful and less limited faculties come into play…" In other words, science denies the existence of anything that is supernatural, super physical or extrasensory. In doing so, science assumes Nature to be an unintelligent substance or energy and uses this excuse to refuse, in the words of Sri Aurobindo, "to extend the limits of inquiry". However, science has come to a stage where prominent scientists accept that there are several phenomena, backed by compelling evidences, which cannot be explained by the current formulations of scientific theories and laws, but only by the presence of an unthinkable, omniscient Intelligence. Examples include: the behaviour of Earth as a single living organism, telepathy, precognition, the presence of a Universal Mind, etc.

Sri Aurobindo says the spiritualist believes that pure Spirit is a reality because there are super physical realities that are beyond the grasp of the senses, based on principles other than those that govern gross matter. Therefore, it is not justifiable to reject them as "false positives". For a spiritualist, consciousness is the unifying factor in the universe, which Sri Aurobindo calls "the universal witness for whom the world is a field", while "the senses are [its] mere instruments". The spiritualist considers the material universe as unreal.

What are the consequences of these two streams of beliefs? Both are seriously flawed, according to Sri Aurobindo. A mixture of matter and consciousness gives a meaningful functionality. If we adopt a purely materialistic view, Sri Aurobido says we arrive at a māyā "that is [present] and yet is not [present]". We see the physical aspects of the universe and so māyā is present and compelling, leading us to believe what we see is the only reality. Yet, māyā "is not", because it is transitory. Transformation is the principle of the universe. On the other hand, the refusal of material existence leads, in Sri Aurobindo’s view, to the development of ego and the purposelessness of the human existence.

In the modern times, the conflict between science and spirituality has further deepened. They have become two separate streams in practice. Both are in a muddled state of affairs and each falsely believes to be complete in its own right. As a result the worldview has become fragmented and has led to manifold problems, a view endorsed by modern thinkers. Eminent physicist David Bohm explains this extremely well in his book Wholeness and the Implicate Order. He says that everything is treated as separate, rather than as a part of "something bigger and wider"; thus we have separate religions, separate sciences, separate subjects, separate nations, separate societies, separate families etc. And how does this view act as a precursor to problems? Bohm provides a simple answer:

"The notion that all these fragments are separately existent is evidently an illusion, and this illusion cannot do other than lead to endless conflict and confusion. Indeed, the attempt to live according to the notion that the fragments are really separate is, in essence, what has led to the growing series of extremely urgent crises that is confronting us today. Thus, as is now well known, this way of life has brought about pollution, destruction of the balance of nature, over-population, world-wide economic and political disorder, and the creation of an overall environment that is neither physically nor mentally healthy for most of the people to live in."

In his best-selling book The Tao of Physics, physicist Fritj of Capra says:

"Our tendency to divide the perceived world into individual and separate things and to experience ourselves as isolated egos in this world is seen as an illusion [in the East] which comes from our measuring and categorizing mentality."

Mankind has enormously suffered this conflict between science and spirituality. A person cannot ride a bicycle if one of its wheels is missing. Time has now come for both science and spirituality to widen their thinking horizons and realize the importance of their alliance, since the future of mankind rests on their combined insight and wisdom. How could this be achieved? Sri Aurobindo provides an answer. He says:

"Only by an extension of the field of our consciousness or an unhoped-for increase in our instruments of knowledge can this ancient quarrel be decided."

Scientific Spirituality:

The Religion of the Future

The universe comes out of the union of two fundamental forces: matter (jada, or 'that which gives shape') and consciousness (chetana). These are also respectively known as prakrati (the manifested form) and purusha (the invisible enlivening spirit). Both have their own merits when considered in isolation; however, it is the union and co-operation of these two entities that works wonders. The human body is a very good example of this fact. Our body is made up of five basic elements – the pancha tatvas [The five basic elements of the gross manifestation of Nature. Namely, Prithvi (solid matter on or inside the earth), Jala (water, liquids and fluidic substances), Vayu (air and gaseous elements), Agni (source of fire and energy) and Akasha (the subliminal etheric expansion)]. The body is an integrated form of various organs, muscles, nerves, arteries, veins etc., and can be used to accomplish any desired work but is non-functional without consciousness. The consciousness part of man (termed "the soul") thinks, decides and directs organs towards a particular task. The separation of consciousness from matter results in death. A dead body is useless since it is not functional. In the absence of consciousness, it rapidly decays and its constituting elements eventually dissolve into their cosmic states.

In essence, it is the association of matter and consciousness that gives rise to functionality. Matter alone, otherwise, is unorganized and of very little use even though it is present in abundance in the universe. For example, water is plentiful in oceans but is too salty. The atmosphere is full of gases, electro-magnetic rays, X-rays etc. but these components are not useful on their own. It is the human intervention, or alternatively the intervention of developed consciousness, that organizes matter so as to make it useful. For example, man has developed methods to process water to make it fit for human consumption. Fire and electricity were present in the universe since times immemorial, but man’s intelligence organized these entities in an utilizable form. Thus, although the components of Nature are powerful in their own right, their usefulness has depended on the inventive skills of human consciousness.
